LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - An artistic gymnastics World Cup scheduled in Tokyo less than four months before the London Olympics has been canceled because a broadcast deal fell through.
The International Gymnastics Federation says Japanese organizers would sustain "weighty financial consequences" if the planned April 14-15 event went ahead without television coverage.
FIG cited a "conflict in scheduling" for canceling the meeting.
Tokyo hosted the world championships last October, seven months after the earthquake and tsunami caused a nuclear emergency and doubts whether the Japan Gymnastics Association would still stage them.
FIG says Japanese officials hope to host a World Cup next year.
