New Zealand's Hewitt, Gemmell wins WCup triathlon

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) - Kris Gemmell beat compatriot Bevan Docherty in the men's race and Andrea Hewitt won the women's event as New Zealanders dominated their home leg of the ITU World Cup triathlon series Sunday.

Gemmell raced to his fifth win in a World Cup event, finishing the a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer cycle and 10-kilometer run in 1 hour, 59 minutes, 58 seconds. He was 1:07 seconds ahead of his Kiwi compatriot Docherty, and Australia's Ryan Fisher finished third to claim his first World Cup medal.

Earlier Sunday, New Zealand's Hewitt surged away on the run to win the women's race in 2 hours, 14 minutes - more than a minute ahead of Japan's Tomoko Sakimoto.
